Our class finally received our long-awaited SMARTBoard! If you aren’t familiar with this technology, the students can explain it best. I’ve heard them say this new board really is smart. It can do things that a normal chalkboard or dry-erase board cannot. The past couple of days have been filled with us trying our hands (literally) at this new technology in our classroom. With my instructional technology background, I should have known to document the students’ reactions. I did take a few pictures of them using it the first day. However, their genuine enthusiasm has really shined through in what they’ve said about our SMART classroom. Some of the quotes from them I can remember are:
“This is better than Disney World!”
“Could we please do thirty mulitplication problems instead of fifteen?”
“Can we stay in during recess and work with the board?”
“Time sure has gone by fast today.”
“I actually like math now.”
“Can I get one of these things for my room at home?”
Anyone who has been a first-hand witness in our room these last few days will definitely agree with me when I say a thirst for knowledge is priceless! We’ve cheered each other on for our academic successes and given each other the courage to be risk-takers. This is what teaching is all about!

When the SMARTBoard came and they were putting it up, I was so excited! I said, “This is as exciting as going to Disney World!” It was a little loud when it was being hooked up, but when they were gone, we wrote our name on the board. I was so excited. I was the second student to write my name. It was so fun!
Comment byWe finally got the SMARTBoard. Well, we’ve only had it for like five days. You get to write with your finger and you can choose four different colored pens. The eraser can actually erase without making a mess! Everyone is crazy about the SMARTBoard…even me!
Comment byGuess what? We’re the first class to get a SMARTBoard. I really love math now. We have a math game where you write the answers. Now third grade is the best! I will remember this year always! The SMARTBoard rocks!
Comment byI think this is the best thing they have made for a classroom. With this SMARTBoard I think it’s going to improve everybody’s knowledge in this class. This board was made special for Mrs. McCullers’ class I think. I wish I wasn’t sick the day it came.
Comment byIf you don’t have a SMARTBoard, then you should convince your teacher because our class has one. We got it on Tuesday, January 29, 2008. It also gets you a whole lot smarter. You can listen to music, do fun math games, and you can have internet. We all love our SMARTBoard. It got me to love math and language arts. I also love to go to school, and I don’t want to go home. I always want to stay at school. Remember, you’ll love it if you get one.
Comment byI like the SMARTBoard because it is better for math. There is a hundreds chart that has multiples. If you touch the screen, it works like a computer mouse. I know why it is called a SMARTBoard. It knows a lot more than we do!
Comment byThe SMARTBoard is like the brain of the class. It is so fun! You can write, play and do math, and all kinds of things. You can also watch short videos. We watched one on rocks. I think the SMARTBoard is great. I am so glad we got it.
Comment byI like the SMARTBoard because you can do fifteen or thirty mulitplication facts. I like to play learning games on it. It’s kind of like magic. We can pick up a marker then we can write the color of the marker with our hands! Then you can play movies, too. Then you can play gamequarium.com. Then you can play all kinds of games. It’s a fun way to learn.
Comment byHave you ever had a SMARTBoard? I have one and I got it on January, 28, 2008. I wish I could have a SMARTBoard in my room at my house. Our SMARTBoard can do many things and has many fun math games. I am so excited to have a SMARTBoard in our class. It feels like the day is only three hours. I think SMARTBoards can make you really smart and learn better. Our SMARTBoard is also really fun to draw on in many different colors. Lots of people have come to our class just to see the SMARTBoard. Now that we have our SMARTBoard, everyone wants one just like ours. I hope that the fourth grade gets some so we can still use them even if we are not in third grade. I think our SMARTBoard is the best thing about the classroom. Our SMARTBoard even knows when we use the markers and eraser. Our SMARTBoard has four markers and one eraser. I wonder if it can go on Webkinz or Disney? I think it is so fun to write on the SMARTBoard. Our class is the only one in the whole school to have a SMARTBoard. Most of the other classes want one just because we have one. Everyone in the class raises their hand so they can solve a problem on the SMARTBoard. Everyone in class says the board is smart just like the kids in our class. Our class is very lucky to have such a wonderful board in the class. We can watch short learning videos that are all about what we are learning about. It was fun for the class to watch the board being put up in our classroom. It was very loud when they put it up so the class was covering their ears for a pretty long time. I think the SMARTBoard is a very fun way to learn. The teacher was surprised wehn everyone was excited about learning. Mostly everyone in the class says things like, “I want a SMARTBoard” or “Learning goes by so fast now.” The SMARTBoard is just like a big computer. I think it is the best learning thinkg in the whole class.

Your class is so fortunate to have such cool technology- and a teacher who knows how to use it! When I was a student MANY years ago, we didn’t even have computers in our classrooms. What do you think will be next???!!!
Comment byI think our SMARTBoard is really cool. It can do anything, like the colors are cool. What you can do on it is cool, but it is hard to write/draw on it if you’re just practicing. It was cool how they put it in eventhough it took a long time to get here. We’ve been waiting since Labor Day! But, I still love the SMARTBoard!

Comment byHave you ever had a SMARTBoard? I have. Our class just got one and we love it! It makes our class want to learn. I think it is awesome because you can write your name with your finger in all different types of ways. Also the eraser is so cool. There’s alot of ways you can erase. One is you can use the normal one. Two is you can put your finger in the middlge of the writing and it all disappears. Three you can press a butoon with your finger and erase it with your hands. If you need to get somwhere, you can just press everything with your finger. In math there are games and you can write it with a pen. Sometimes in extension we play a math game that we also play in math and you have to use the keyboard. On the SMARTBoard you can watch videos like in science we watch videos sometimes. The SMARTBoard has all different things. There are colors like the rainbow and stars,smiley faces and flowers. It also helps like how it helped with vocabulary and science and all subjects. It gave us things to take notes on for the book THe Nights of the Pufflings. It put shapes over the answers and we found them in our book. Then we said the answers and Mrs. McCullers dragged the shape off and it had the notes. The SMARTBoard is kind of like a computer. It has websites and it has the thing you click on to go to the internet. When you got to the internet on the SMARTBoard, you have to touch it with your finger. Then you get there. On the real computer you have the mouse, but I think the SMARTBoard is cooler. You can’t rest your hand down and write like a normal paper. When you write with the four colored pens, you don’t write as good as you do on paper. The SMARTBoard has everything you need on every single subject. In writing you can go to a persuasive writing thing. You can go to rocks and minerals and fossils and soils too. Yesterday we did a thing. It was a video sort of and not a video. It had games too. One was where you drag the bones back in the dinosaur. The video was really good too. In math we are learning about mulitplication, and we are doing games like you answer the multipliation problem then you get checked. THere are so many things on the SMARTBoard. I know and I wish I could tell you all, but I can’t write forever.

Comment byI see your class is very excited to have a Smartboard. Every 5th grade class has a n Activboard. It is fun to use especially with the Activotes. We use those to study for the CRCT whic is 4 days away. Hopefully I will pass to 6th grade with my friends. Can you believe Me and Polet are still friends, but even closer to each other. Do you remember when I won the school spelling bee, well I wasn’t present at the County Spelling Bee because I had to leave to Mexico. The person who won 2nd place for the school spelling bee moved on to the County. That person was Cassidy B. She won in 2nd. I told my mom that if she won in 2nd place I could of won in 1st place. I haven’t mailed you anymore cause I forgot you address. And I keep on forgetting to ask Samantha. I see you still teach 3rd grade. I bet you you still use your “Bee” theme.
